Al – Kharga Oasis – Western desert Oasis

Al – Kharga Oasis hold one of the earliest surviving and best – preserved Christian cemeteries in the world , The Necropolis of Al – Bagawat .
Bagawat is located one km north of the great site of Temple of Hibis.
Bagawat Necropolis holds a 263 mud brick tombs appearing to date from the 4th to 6th centuries AD. One of those tombs has the best – preserved paintings, including the Old Testament story of Moses leading the children of Israel out of Egypt, which is visible through some 9th – century graffiti.
Al – Kharga Oasis and its villages around has many activates to explore such like Qasr ad – Dush a Roman temple, Al – Ghueita another Roman mud brick fortress and Al Zayyan fortress enclosing Roman temple.
Temple of Nadura is a place not to miss because of its strategic view from a top hill to the oasis. This fortified lookout was built during the reign of Roman emperor Antonius Pius to protect the Oasis.
